One of Sweden’s most prominent photography museums. Thousands of cameras, photographic equipment and pictures are displayed together in a unique, beautiful setting.
The old cinema
Fotomuseet Olympia (the Olympia Photo Museum) is located in Falkenberg’s first cinema, which opened in 1912. The venue is now restored and made to look as when it first opened; a unique environment that is itself worth a visit.
Cameras from all ages
Fotomuseet Olympia displays objects that follow the development of photography from 1840 and onwards. The focus lies on immense variety of unique cameras from different eras, including classic studio cameras on wooden stands, miniature cameras and the very first amateur cameras. Also on display are unique tropical cameras and equipment for stereo photography. The collection also includes other equipment relating to the more than 150-year history of photography.
The museum has an extensive collection of pictures from Falkenberg as well as a permanent exhibition with photographs of Gillis Häägg and Lennart Nilsson, two photographers who rose to local fame. The museum also organises so-called ‘nostalgia screenings’. For people who are interested in learning more about the local area - and photography enthusiasts, of course - visiting Olympia is a must. You can find the museum’s opening hours on its website.
