The half-timbered building was built in 1865 and is closely tied to the area’s once-substantial grain export industry. Experience the charming interior, which is influenced by the building’s original function as a granary. The supporting wooden pillars and whitewashed brick walls still leave little doubt as to its proud history. The grain was dried in the tall, pointed storage tower, the tip of which still swivels when the wind blows.
Fotomuseet Olympia

Fotomuseet Olympia

One of Sweden’s most prominent photography museums. Thousands of cameras, photographic equipment and pictures are displayed together in a unique, beautiful setting. The old cinema Fotomuseet Olympia (the Olympia Photo Museum) is located in Falkenberg’s first cinema, which opened in 1912. The venue is now restored and made to look as when it first opened; a unique environment that is itself worth a visit. Cameras from all ages Fotomuseet Olympia displays objects that follow the development of photography from 1840 and onwards. The focus lies on immense variety of unique cameras from different eras, including classic studio cameras on wooden stands, miniature cameras and the very first amateur cameras. Also on display are unique tropical cameras and equipment for stereo photography. The collection also includes other equipment relating to the more than 150-year history of photography. Exhibitions The museum has an extensive collection of pictures from Falkenberg as well as a permanent exhibition with photographs of Gillis Häägg and Lennart Nilsson, two photographers who rose to local fame. The museum also organises so-called ‘nostalgia screenings’. For people who are interested in learning more about the local area - and photography enthusiasts, of course - visiting Olympia is a must. Svedinos Bil- och Flygmuseum

Svedinos Bil- och Flygmuseum

This museum contains one of Europe’s biggest collections of old automobiles and aircraft. The collection includes approximately 40 cars, 40 aircraft, motorcycles, engines, electrical appliances and much more. There is also a museum café where you can have a bit and relax for a bit. Cars from all ages The development of the automobile during the 20th century is a truly fascinating story, which you can delve into at the museum. In the early days of the automobile, cars were more like engine-drawn carriages and quite different to what we would consider a ‘real’ car today. In the 1930s, the rate of progression in car designs exploded, with new models rolling out each year. In the 1950s, the modern car began to take form, the inspiration for the designs being especially drawn from aircraft. The museum has a huge variety of car models on display. In the hangar Few things have fascinated mankind so much as the ability to fly. The designs for the earliest airplanes were based on birds, and they were not capable of flying much faster or higher than birds either. It wouldn’t take long, however, before aircraft began to soar to new heights and break new speed records over the course of the first half of the 20th century. The big breakthrough came with the invention of the jet engine, which is when the history of flight entered a particularly riveting chapter. In the museum’s massive hangar, you can walk amongst and below many different types of planes. Summer café At the museum, you can buy coffee and a snack and rest a while in the courtyard. The café sells cakes, pastries and sandwiches, and occasionally soups and salads. Everything is home-baked and home-made, and the café uses organic and local ingredients to the furthest extent possible. The museum is open during the summer months. You can find the exact opening hours at Svedinos Bil- och Flygmuseum.

What is an eco-museum? An eco-museum is aimed at highlighting the interplay between the working life of an older society and the working environment and landscape they worked in. The focus is on the nature and culture of the area and showing the countryside, landscape, its natural resources and - above all - the people who carved out an existence for themselves there. From antiquity to modern day Ekomuseet Nedre Ätradalen consists of 80 different sites you can visit in an area that stretches along the Ätran river valley through the inland region of Halland. In these beautiful surroundings, you can visit everything from ancient monuments to modern businesses. The attractions are clearly signposted with black & white signs.
