The battle of Axtorna in 1565 was the largest battle during the First Northern War (known in Scandinavia as the Seven-Year Nordic War, 1563-70) and one of the largest in Nordic military history.

The battle lasted from morning till evening on October 20, 1565, and involved about 20.000 soldiers. It ended in a slim Danish victory and approximately 4000 people died.

Re-enactment of the battle has been performed 2006-2007 with the help of historical societys from all over Sweden and Denmark, market-place, refreshments, etc.

All-year-round, visitors are guided through the battle site with information boards and flags marking the armies starting points.
